Serving as the fifth single to be lifted off of his upcoming sophomore album, which is scheduled to drop Friday November 4th 2022, ‘Innocence and Sadness’ finds Dermot Kennedy in a reflective state of mind as he ponders the the complexities of adult life whilst trying to cling on to his childlike sense of wonder and innocence.

In a press statement announcing the singles release, the ‘Better Days’ singer says of the powerful track: “It’s impossible for me to express how much this song means to me. I wrote this song on the piano in my parents’ house. “Innocence and sadness in the same night” means I cling to my childlike sense of wonder while learning how to face all the challenges of life. All in search of steady rhythm joy. Reliable and true joy.”

Marking an exciting new chapter in the 30 year olds life, ‘Sonder’ is summarised as “the realisation that each random passer-by is living a life as vivid and complex as your own,” a term that has resonated deeply with Kennedy.

Set to feature the singles ‘Something To Someone’ – which to date has amassed over 20 million steams – and ‘Dreamer’, the record serves as the follow up to 2019’s ‘Without Fear’, which with first week sales of 7,000 units became the fasting-selling album of the year in Ireland. The record also debut at the top spot in the UK with sales of 20,061 units, marking Kennedy’s first no.1 album outside of Ireland.
